Educational Goals
Woosong College of Liberal Arts aims to foster talented students who embody Woosong University’s vision and founding principles : self-reliance, uprightness, and goodness. To do so, it has established concrete goals and an educational curriculum.
“Self-reliance” means the independence of character that takes responsibility for its own actions and the establishment of the self, the prerequisite for autonomous activity. “Uprightness” means controlling one’s desires and maintaining the discipline of body and mind that leads to good conduct. “Goodness” means the actualization of the will to act virtuously without regard for the judgment of others.
Our idea of talented students
What kind of talented students will Woosong College of Liberal Arts foster?
This is our vision and our educational goal, which guide all our educational activities. Since its foundation, Woosong’s educational philosophy has been that advocated by our founder; and with this as its basis, Woosong aims to adapt to the spirit of the times and foster talented students as follows. Our idea of talented students takes into account the nature of the world of information – the foundation of the civilization of the 21st century – as well as the limitless and continuous unpredictable changes in time and space.
1. Talented students and creative convergence
Today, in our rapidly changing information society, creativity is the most important core competency that talented students must have. However, creative thinking - finding and solving new problems - arises from a multidisciplinary process that links knowledge from diverse fields. In order to meet the demands of the current age, when diverse social and cultural elements from various areas are converging, Woosong seeks to foster talented students who are competent in creative thinking through a multidisciplinary educational system.
2. Glocal talent
The world today is becoming one “global village” of lively international exchange. In response to this global environment, Woosong aims to foster talented students who have “global competence” and who can not only serve their local, domestic communities but also do so around the world.
3. 4.0 IR new practical talent
Since the “digital revolution,” human civilization has been changing even more quickly, and universities must have an adventurous spirit that is not bound to past knowledge and order but is boldly oriented to the future. Hence, we must quickly heed the call of “4.0 IR” for specialized talent with practical knowledge and skills by establishing a new plan. In this period of civilizational transition, we seek to foster talent to adopt the cutting-edge technologies and lead the world of the future.
Following discussions in Woosong, we think that our founder’s educational philosophy can be summarized as follows.
- Pragmatism
- Communitarian liberalism
- Participation in society
- Open glocalism
- Cultural inclusiveness
